Trump gives first congressional endorsement to NC rep
Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump is making his entrance into congressional politics with an endorsement in a heated North Carolina Republican primary.
{mosads}Trump recorded a robocall released Saturday endorsing Rep. Renee Ellmers in her fight against fellow Rep. George Holding and former Senate candidate Greg Brannon in a new North Carolina district, Politico reported.
“I need her help in Washington so we can work together to defeat [the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria] ISIS, secure our border and bring back jobs and, frankly, so many other things,” Trump says in the call. “And Renee knows how to do it. She gets it. And together, we will make America great again.”
Ellmers was one of the first lawmakers to endorse Trump in March.
She has been under fire from a Koch-backed group working to paint her as a fake conservative.
North Carolina holds its congressional primary on June 7.
