A gunman is dead after a hostage situation at a Wal-Mart in Amarillo, Texas, according to multiple reports.

The Amarillo Police Department has confirmed the suspect was shot by its SWAT team and all hostages are safe.

{mosads}ABC’s local affiliate reported the situation was at the Wal-Mart located on I-27 and Georgia Street. The TV station said law enforcement personnel evacuated individuals from the store’s west side. Reports of the incident began around 11 a.m. Tuesday morning, it added.

The incident follows the deadliest shooting in American history.

Forty-nine people were killed and 53 more were injured when a gunman opened fire inside a gay nightclub in Orlando early Sunday

Authorities have since identified Omar Mateen, 29, as the shooter. He was killed in a shootout with police.

Mateen’s attack on a gay nightspot during Pride Month has fueled speculation he was motivated by animosity toward the LGBT community.

The U.S. citizen, who lived in Port St. Lucie, Fla., reportedly voiced allegiance with the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria during his rampage.
