Cleveland mayor not worried about threats at convention

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson (D) said Sunday he isn’t worried about any threats targeting the Republican National Convention next week in his city.

{mosads}”I can’t even say one threat concerns us. We’re prepared for everything, and as you know, anytime something happens, particularly if it’s unusual, then you tweak and you modify whatever you’re doing to accommodate that in order to minimize it or mitigate the possibility of it,” Jackson said on ABC’s “This Week.”

Jackson said the city has taken out a $50 million “protest insurance” policy, adding it is “no stranger to unrest and demonstrations and protests.”

“So we’re prepared for that also. Of course we would like to have a lower premium associated with it. … But that wasn’t the case, so you have to meet whatever the circumstances are.”

Protesters are expected to descend on Cleveland for the convention, which runs from Monday through Thursday, including some unhappy with the likely nomination of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Other expected protesters include Trump supporters, a white nationalist group and the Westboro Baptist Church.
