Former Cruz spokesman hits Trump on immigration: It’s now the Gang of 9 bill
Ted Cruz’s former spokesman early Thursday criticized Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for his immigration shift and touted the Texas senator as someone who is consistent with his policies.
“Now they can call it the ‘Gang of 9’ bill. #MakeAmnestyGreatAgain,” spokesman Ron Nehring tweeted.

{mosads}In a series of tweets, Nehring went on to criticize Trump over his apparently changing immigration views, saying if Trump had been candid with voters during the presidential primaries, he would have “been brushed aside.”
Following a meeting with Hispanic advisers last week, Trump — who has built his presidential platform on calls to deport all 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. and build a wall along the nation’s southern border — suggested that he might be open to a path to legal citizenship for immigrants in the country illegally.
“The issue isn’t amnesty (although now we can call it the Gang of 9). The issue is even on his signature issue he’s without principle,” Nehring tweeted.
“This is exactly what Sen Cruz warned about on May 3. That every Trump idea is subject to future reversal.”
Nehring also said that anytime anyone aligns themselves with the Republican nominee, he “eventually embarrasses them.”
“Plenty of people support amnesty,” Nehring said.
“That’s not the issue. The issue is someone being on multiple sides of an issue nearly concurrently.”
Nehring went on to tout Cruz, a former Republican presidential candidate, as consistent. He said the Texas senator warned people that Trump would “betray his own supporters.”
“Silly ‘Muslim ban’ evolved into cruz policy on refugees. Now wall–>amnesty,” he tweeted.
“So once Trump ‘evolves’ on immigration, on what issues can on absolutely count on him to stay solid? Seriously.”
Hillary Clinton will “pull Trump apart like warm bread” in a debate, Nehring added, while also criticizing the Democratic presidential nominee for not being able to “think on her feet” and citing her lack of press conferences.
“But Trump keeps handing her ammo to use in 9/26 debate. ‘Which Trump is America getting? Nobody knows,’ ” he tweeted.
“What didn’t change since yesterday? @tedcruz on immigration. Or anything. #Solid.”
