American Monarchy

Since 1981 there has been a Bush or Clinton in the White House. And if you look at the latest polling numbers — a recent Time magazine poll predicts a Hillary Clinton/John McCain race for president, with both having about an equal shot to win — there is a good chance that this trend will continue through 2012. That would mean that a Bush or Clinton has essentially led our country for over 30 years. I don’t care how good the bloodlines are — two or three decades of leadership from two families is not good democracy. In fact, it smells and looks like an American version of monarchy.

The United States of America is supposed to be the shining example of proper democracy around the world. Instead, foreign leaders and citizens look at us with disdain as we shun our elections, develop few quality leaders, embrace less and less good ideas, and essentially submit to monarchy. How boring and undemocratic are we to continually put Bushes and Clintons in charge? What’s next after Hillary? Jeb or Neil Bush? Chelsea? Please. This isn’t India, Egypt, Jordan or a police state where citizens have no say-so. This is America, and we should be standing up for democracy.
