Warren: Clinton is ‘acutely aware’ of Trump’s voter appeal on trade
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said Wednesday that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton knows her Republican rival has voter appeal on the issue of trade.
{mosads}”I think she is acutely aware of that,” Warren told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd on Wednesday when asked about Donald Trump’s appeal to people unhappy with existing trade deals.
“But I think the other part of this is, Trump has no ideas on trade.”
Warren went on to to slam the GOP nominee on the issue, saying the GOP nominee has not provided details on how he would improve trade deals in this country.
“It’s not like Trump says, ‘Let me explain this and what’s really happening in these trade deals and why it’s an economic problem and why it’s a regulatory problem.’ Trump is good at fulminating. He’s good at waving his hands and raising his voice, but he has no fundamental idea,” Warren said.
“He just kind of does this magic, ‘Oh, well I’m going to negotiate a better deal.’ Better deal how? What exactly is your idea, Donald Trump, for trying to do better trade for the United States?”
Warren also said Clinton has been “absolutely explicit” on her position against Obama’s signature Trans-Pacific Partnership; Trump has hit her hard for her initial support of the sweeping trade agreement.
“She has said that she will block it if she is president of the United States,” Warren said. “There’s no ambiguity here.”
During the interview, Warren called Trump a “thin-skilled bully” and said the GOP nominee has “serious substantive problems.”
