WATCH: Dem says Wells Fargo CEO ‘in denial’
Wells Fargo CEO John Stumpf is “in denial” about the damage done to his bank by the scandal over fake accounts, according to Democratic Rep. Denny Heck (D-Wash.).
“[The] CEO and chairman of the board is in denial about the severity, magnitude of this issue,” Heck said in an interview with The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper shortly after questioning Stumpf during a four-hour hearing of the House Financial Services Committee.
The Wells Fargo CEO appeared on Capitol Hill Thursday for the second time to answer questions about the millions of bogus accounts that bank employees created for customers.
Asked if Stumpf could go to jail, Heck hedged before saying, “criminal charges for someone wouldn’t at all surprise me before this is over.”
