Governor of Utah withdraws support for Trump
The Republican governor of Utah is reversing his decision to vote for Donald Trump in light of the GOP nominee’s obscene comments about women.
“Donald Trump’s statements are beyond offensive & despicable,” said Gov. Gary Herbert in a tweet. “While I cannot vote for Hillary Clinton, I will not vote for Trump.”
Herbert announced in August that he will vote for Trump, giving him an important boost in the deep-red state, where Trump has struggled to capture support of the Mormon majority.
Earlier Friday night, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, who himself endorsed Trump just last week, called on the real estate mogul to drop out.
“The time has come for Governor Pence to lead the ticket,” Huntsman said in a statement.
