Pence fundraiser in New Jersey canceled
Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence won’t attend a New Jersey fundraiser scheduled for Monday, New Jersey Advance Media reports, as the GOP ticket faces fallout over revelations about Donald Trump’s lewd comments.
Multiple GOP sources told the paper that Pence’s visit to the Ocean County Republican Organization was scrapped, but they did not explain why.
{mosads}The scheduling decision comes days after Pence repudiated the comments unearthed in a decade-old video of Trump where he spoke about grabbing women’s genitals without their consent. Pence issued a statement on Saturday, saying, “I do not condone his remarks and I cannot defend them.”
On Sunday, he congratulated his running mate in a tweet that said he was “proud” to stand with him.
Marc Lotter, Pence’s spokesman, told The Hill that the appearance had been canceled last week and that the governor is set to attend a handful of fundraisers for the ticket this week.
Pence is scheduled to appear at two campaign events in North Carolina Monday.
