Trump considering ways to quickly exit Paris agreement: report

Donald Trump is apparently already eyeing ways for the U.S. to pull out of the landmark Paris climate agreement that the Obama administration formally signed on to in September.

Trump, the president-elect, is reportedly considering either sending a letter withdrawing the U.S. from a 1992 convention that serves as the parent treaty of the Paris accord or issuing a presidential order to delete the U.S. signature from the new agreement.

{mosads}A source on Trump’s transition team told Reuters that the president-elect wants to bypass the stipulation in the agreement that calls for a four-year process for a country to exit the accord.

“It was reckless for the Paris agreement to enter into force before the election,” the source said.

The deal entered into force Nov. 4 and agreed to by nearly 200 nations seeks to phase out greenhouse gas emissions by the end of the century.

The unnamed Trump official blamed the Obama administration for not consulting the Senate before agreeing to the deal.

“There wouldn’t be this diplomatic fallout on the broader international agenda if Obama hadn’t rushed the adoption,” the source told Reuters.
