Jim Brown on Trump: ‘We talked about helping people’
Former NFL superstar Jim Brown praised President-elect Donald Trump during an interview early Wednesday, saying the two discussed “helping people” at a meeting at Trump Tower one day earlier.
“It was a fantastic meeting. We talked about helping people,” Brown told CNN’s “New Day.” “And we’re offering our services to do that.”
Brown, along with fellow former NFL player Ray Lewis, met with the president-elect to discuss Brown’s charity, Amer-I-Can, which focuses on keeping children away from gang violence.
“The graciousness, the intelligence, the reception we got was fantastic,” Brown said after the meeting on Tuesday.
During the CNN interview, the Cleveland Browns legend expressed optimism that Trump is committed to working with him.
“He’s a very dynamic personality and he’s also a very friendly, comedic type of individual. So when he said that he was in, that’s what he meant. Because basically, he will say what’s on his mind and he will tell you the truth,” he added.
Brown also dismissed potential criticism about the meeting, noting the power of the office of commander in chief.
“So if someone criticizes us for being with Mr. Trump, it’s that he has the power of that office and when you meet him, he’s a very personable person,” he told CNN.
“So I was very happy and very proud to have had that opportunity and for him to give us that opportunity to present things that I’ve worked on most of my life because I do work for the underprivileged people in this country.”
