Brazile rallies Dems with denunciation of Trump’s attack on John Lewis

Democratic National Committee (DNC) interim chairwoman Donna Brazile received a standing ovation Saturday after defending Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) against President-elect Donald Trump’s claim that the congressman is “all talk” and “no action.”

“I say that John Lewis took action. He took action marching from Selma to Montgomery,” Brazile said to cheers from the audience at the DNC’s “Future Forum.”

“They fractured his skull because of the color of his skin, but John Lewis never stopped marching for justice and equality for all people,” she added.

{mosads}Brazile said she not only denounces Trump’s comments about Lewis, but also about the people Lewis represents in Georgia.

“We denounce these remarks not only on Congressman John Lewis, but on the good people of Atlanta, the people he represents. The fifth district. The home of the state capital,” she said.

Trump on Saturday responded to Lewis’s comment that he does not view the president-elect as a “legitimate president” by criticizing the civil rights icon on Twitter.

“Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk – no action or results. Sad!” Trump wrote in several tweets.
