‘Liar’ chanted at GOP rep during MLK Day speech

A Republican congresswoman was booed on Monday during a Martin Luther King Jr. Day speech where she discussed Republican plans for repealing ObamaCare.

The crowd called Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) a “liar” and chanted about saving healthcare during a speech in Spokane, Wash., the radio station KXLY reports.

McMorris Rodgers, chairwoman of the House Republican Conference, has been a strong proponent of repealing outgoing President Obama’s healthcare law.

Her office issued the following statement to KXLY after the speech on Monday.

“Today’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day Rally and Unity March was about unifying around the core values that we, as Americans, all share, which is why the Congresswoman was honored to be invited to speak and share her thoughts on unity,” the statement said.

“The Congresswoman looks forward to keeping the lines of communication open when discussing how to ensure a smooth and stable transition out of Obamacare to put in place a 21st Century health care system.”

GOP lawmakers are moving full steam ahead to repeal the healthcare law, making it the first order of business for the new Congress.

House Republicans have said that they plan to get repeal legislation to President-elect Donald Trump’s desk by February.

Republicans are under pressure to ensure that a replacement for ObamaCare moves alongside repeal to ensure a new option for the 20 million people now enrolled.

Democrats are on the attack, holding rallies across the country to protect the law.
