Ex-Georgia gov to be Trump’s Agriculture pick

President-elect Donald Trump will nominate former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue (R ) to be secretary of Agriculture, sources familiar with discussions told The Hill Wednesday night.

It is the last Cabinet-level appointment Trump has to make, and the informal announcement comes just two days before the president-elect’s inauguration. A formal announcement is expected Thursday.

The 70-year-old former veterinarian served on Trump’s agricultural advisory committee during the campaign and is a cousin of Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.).

{mosads}Perdue met with Trump at the end of November, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said, and told reporters afterward Trump asked “what my skills sets were and I told him what they were, aside from having been governor, as a business person and primarily in agricultural commodities, trading domestically and internationally.”
