Australia strips ISIS fighter of citizenship
An Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) fighter has been stripped of his Australian citizenship.
Khaled Sharrouf’s citizenship was revoked by authorities under a new 2015 counter-terrorism law, Reuters reported Saturday.
The law allows authorities to strip the legal status of dual-citizens if they are affiliated with a terrorist organization or a banned group.
{mosads}The law was passed as Australia seeks to improve its anti-terrorism campaign, including their efforts to combat radical homegrown militants.
Sharrouf’s association with ISIS became infamous when photographs appeared to show him holding several severed heads of Syrian soldiers three years ago.
