Fox News host: Trump reporters ‘have an overinflated view of their mission’

Fox News host Martha MacCallum says that some reporters covering President  Trump are overstepping their roles as journalists by adding their own judgments to their reporting.

“I think that there are some in the media who have an overinflated view of their mission,” MacCallum said during The Jamie Weinstein Show on Monday.

During the podcast interview, MacCallum said the role of the press should be to hold the president accountable to his word.

“[Our job] is to look at what this human being who is now President of the United States says he’s going to accomplish, and to hold him to it,” “The First 100 Days” host said.

{mosads}And she called journalists who have been adding their own judgments while covering Trump “out of line.” 

“I do not think that it is our place to make vast judgments over whether or not this person is stable, for example, which is one thing that has been brought up by some members of the media,” MacCallum added.  

“I think it’s out of line … We are observers of history while it’s happening, and that’s what people want us to do.”

MacCallum also sought to distance her series from the opinion shows of some Fox News colleagues, saying “First 100 Days” “is not that.”

“I think that a lot of reporters get sort of a little far afield from the mission and see it in some grandiose way that I’m not really sure is appropriate,” MacCallum adds.
