Giuliani: NYC plane scare shows ‘clear lack of understanding’ about 9/11

The promotional trip of a plane used as Air Force One through Manhattan airspace shows a “clear lack of understanding” of the impact of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) asserted Wednesday.

Giuliani, whose term as mayor was in its final months when terrorists flew planes into the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers, said that he would have been outraged had he still been serving as mayor.

“I hate to make too much of it, because they did apologize for it, but doesn’t it show a clear lack of understanding of September 11th once again?” Giualiani asked, complaining that the U.S. had “redefined” the event so much so as to water down its legacy.

“Suppose that were a private jet from some big American company,” the former presidential candidate and rumored 2010 New York gubernatorial candidate said. “The CEO would now be in very deep trouble for having used a plane to take a couple of background shots of something they probably have a million shots of.”

Giuliani, who rose to national prominence in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, said that his language might not have been as “genteel” as current Mayor Mike Bloomberg (R), who angrily reacted to the flight of the Air Force One lookalike over New York.
