Dem Sen. Murphy raises $3M in first quarter of 2017
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) raised more than $3 million in the first quarter of 2017, Murphy’s team announced on Tuesday.
“I’m amazed at the passion and enthusiasm of our grassroots supporters. I’ve never seen anything like it,” Murphy said in a statement.
Murphy, who is up for for reelection next year, received more than 66,000 donations averaging $42 per contribution. According to the statement, 97 percent of contributions were valued at $100 or less.

Murphy’s strong fundraising push gave the lawmaker about $3.5 million at the end of the quarter.
“People in Connecticut are paying attention to what’s going on in Washington and are finding their own way to make sure their voice is heard,” he said.
“Whether it’s donating $5 here and there, offering to host a house party to train activists, or volunteering at a phone bank, there are limitless ways to stand up and support the things you believe in.”
