DSCC uses MSNBC vids to whack Burr

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is taking an online whack at Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) for recent comments he made regarding his reaction to the financial panic.

Last week, Burr told a group of constituents that when the financial panic began, he told his wife to withdraw all she could from the ATM.

“On Friday night, I called my wife and I said, ‘Brooke, I am not coming home this weekend. I will call you on Monday. Tonight, I want you to go to the ATM machine, and I want you to draw out everything it will let you take,” Burr said, according to the Hendersonville Times-News. “And I want you to tomorrow, and I want you to go Sunday.’ I was convinced on Friday night that if you put a plastic card in an ATM machine the last thing you were going to get was cash.”

The DSCC has released a new ad and mini-site seizing on the comments. The ad features footage of MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow mocking and criticizing the senator. The mini site has the banner headline: “Senator Burr’s plan: start a run on the banks.”

Burr defended his comments, saying he depends on ATM machines more than most.

“There are individuals in this country who keep cash at home,” Burr told the News & Observer. “I don’t happen to be one of those. I live from ATM machine to ATM machine. The reality is when you look at a financial industry that is not exchanging capital, it immediately says you better have a little bit of cash set aside.”
