Coulter: Colleges like Berkeley want to ‘squelch conservative speech’

Ann Coulter says schools like the University of California, Berkeley, are trying to silence conservative speech.

“It shows how radical the universities are generally,” the conservative firebrand said late Wednesday on Fox News’s “Hannity.”

“Yes, they want to destroy and squelch conservative speech,” Coulter added. “They really are outside the mainstream.”

Coulter announced earlier Wednesday that she would not appear at Berkeley after conservative groups sponsoring her remarks withdrew their support.

“There will be no speech,” she told Reuters. “I looked over my shoulder and my allies had joined the other team.”

Young America’s Foundation and the Berkeley College Republicans reportedly pulled their support for Coulter’s planned Thursday speech over security concerns.

Officials at Berkeley initially canceled an event planned last week, citing danger over protesters.

Massive protests erupted at the school in February when the same GOP groups invited far-right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos.

The school had offered Coulter a date in May, but she rejected that, calling it “not a suitable offer” as it fell during the school’s final exams.
