Philippines’s Duterte: Kim Jung Un ‘wants to end the world’
The president of Philippines says North Korean leader Kim Jong-un wants “to end the world.”
Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday urged the United Nations to use restraint following North Korea’s recent missile tests, according to Reuters.
{mosads}”There seems to be two countries playing with their toys and those toys are not really to entertain,” Duterte said, referring to North Korea and the U.S.
He said Kim Jong Un’s actions are putting “the planet to an edge.”
“You know that they are playing with somebody who relishes letting go of missiles and everything. I would not want to go into his [Kim’s] mind because I really do not know what’s inside but he’s putting mother earth, the planet to an edge,” he said.
Duterte, who is known for his often blunt and unfiltered rhetoric, warned that one miscalculation would result in a “catastrophe” for Asia.
The Philippine leader said he’s also planning speak with Trump by telephone later Saturday and will urge the U.S. president not to get into a military confrontation with Kim.
“I will just communicate to [Trump], ‘just let him play… do not play into his hands,’ ” Duterte said.
“The guy [Kim] simply wants to end the world, that is why he is very happy. He is always smiling. But he really wants to finish everything and he wants to drag us all down.”
