Iran rejects ‘repugnant’ White House condolences for Tehran attack

Iran’s foreign minister, Javad Zarif, slammed the White House on Thursday, its response to terror attacks in Tehran was “repugnant.”

“Repugnant WH statement & Senate sanctions as Iranians counter terror backed by US clients.” Zarif tweeted. “Iranian people reject such US claims of friendship.”

{mosads}Zarif’s tweet was in response to a statement from President Trump on Wednesday that condemned the terror attacks, and warned Iran against sponsoring terrorism.

“We grieve and pray for the innocent victims of the terrorist attacks in Iran, and for the Iranian people, who are going through such challenging times,” Trump said.

“We underscore that states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote.”

The State Department has labeled Iran a state sponsor of terror since 1984.

At least twelve people were killed and 42 people were wounded when armed assailants attacked Iran’s parliament building and the mausoleum of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Even though the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard laid blame on its regional rival Saudi Arabia and the U.S.

“This terrorist attack happened only a week after the meeting between the US president and the backward [Saudi] leaders who support terrorists. The fact that Islamic State has claimed responsibility proves that they were involved in the brutal attack,” the Revolutionary Guard said.

Trump struck a $110 billion defense deal with the Saudis during his visit to Riyadh last month. The White House said the deal would bolster Saudi Arabia’s defense capabilities in the face of extremism and create defense jobs in the U.S.
