NORAD to conduct exercises in DC
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) will perform exercises early Wednesday over the National Capital Region.
NORAD, which is responsible for protecting U.S. airspace, will conduct the exercises from about midnight to 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. If the weather does not permit, NORAD will perform the exercises the next morning.
{mosads}The exercises, called Falcon Virgo, are aimed to hone interception capability and will include training flights along with the National Capital Region Coordination Center, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Eastern Air Defense Sector and the Joint Air Defense Operations Center.
“These exercises are carefully planned and closely controlled to ensure CONR’s rapid response capability,” the Continental U.S. NORAD Region said in a press release.
“NORAD has conducted exercise flights of this nature throughout the U.S. and Canada since the start of Operation Noble Eagle, the command’s response to the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.”
