VIDEO: Ryan claims GOP can stop budget, with centrist Dems’ help
The House and Senate could kill President Obama’s budget and force the administration to start its budget over from scratch if centrist Democrats in the House and Senate join with Republicans, House Budget Committee Ranking Member Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) said Wednesday.
“So here’s the deal: I can’t pass our budget, but the question is: Will those Blue Dog Democrats go along with this?” Ryan asked during an appearance Wednesday morning on CNBC. “Will those (Ind. Dem. Sen.) Evan Bayhs of the world, the (Tenn. Dem. Rep.) Jim Coopers of the world help make this happen?”
Ryan said there are sufficient numbers of centrist Democrats in both bodies to muster a majority vote against the budget, but indicated that the GOP would reach out to those members who could help them stop the budget in its tracks.
He also asserted that the budget submitted last night is “camouflage.”
“They gave us the budget late last night; it is basically the same Obama budget. They’ve camouflaged it with a bunch of reserve funds,” Ryan alleged. “They’re offering the same thing as the Obama budget, just with more bells and whistles.”
