Nicolle Wallace: Women in White House should condemn Trump’s comments

Nicolle Wallace on Thursday called on women in the White House to condemn President Trump’s Twitter attack on MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski.

“As a former communications director, there’s a single press strategy for this White House: It’s called an apology,” said Wallace, an MSNBC host who worked as President George W. Bush’s communications director.

Wallace, the host of “Deadline: White House,” specifically called on women working in the White House to speak out against the president’s comments.

{mosads}“As a woman who was fortunate enough to work in the White House as a public servant, all of the women collecting paychecks from the U.S. taxpayers, Dina Powell, Kellyanne Conway, Elaine Chow, Betsy DeVos, you should all go on the record and condemn your boss’s comments, and you should work behind the scenes to educate him about just how offensive they are,” Wallace said.

“As someone who once proudly called myself a Republican, the party will be permanently associated with misogyny if leaders don’t stand up and demand a retraction,” she warned.

“As a mother of a son, I ask any woman who is defending these comments how they plan to raise good men, if the most powerful man in the world gets away with this.”

Trump took to Twitter on Thursday to rip Brzezinski, calling her “low I.Q.” and “crazy,” and said she was bleeding from a facelift at his New Year’s Eve party in December.

While lawmakers in both parties criticized Trump’s remarks, the president was defended by his spokeswoman and the leader of the Republican National Committee (RNC).

“The only person I see a war on is this president and everybody that works for him,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said at Thursday’s press briefing.

“He’s not going to sit back and be attacked by the liberal media, Hollywood elites — and when they hit him, he’s going to hit back,” she continued.

RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel also took to defending the president, saying his tweets show “he is human.”

First lady Melania Trump’s spokeswoman also weighed in on the tweets, saying in a statement to CNN, “The first lady has stated publicly in the past, when her husband gets attacked, he will punch back 10 times harder.”
