Photos of ‘dangerous’ grandparents go viral in response to travel ban
Social media users are sharing photos of their “dangerous” grandparents using the hashtag #GrandparentsNotTerrorists after the Supreme Court gave the Trump administration permission to implement a limited travel ban.
The Supreme Court on Monday allowed President Trump’s travel ban to take effect on a limited basis, before it hears a lawsuit against the policy this fall. The travel ban will block many travelers from six predominantly Muslim countries from entering the U.S. for 90 days. The countries affected are Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
{mosads}The high court’s order allows nationals from the six listed countries to enter the U.S. if they have a “bona fide” relationship to a person in the U.S.
The Trump administration is defining that to mean a parent, spouse, child, adult son or daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, or sibling — but not grandparents, grandchildren, cousins or other extended family.
Social media users are taking to Twitter to rip that decision, mocking the idea of their grandparents being too dangerous to be let into the country:
This is my lovely grandma. @realDonaldTrump does she look like a terrorist to you? #GrandparentsNotTerrorists pic.twitter.com/KkciEWBM1t
