Dem senator: I didn’t expect Trump Jr. to give proof of collusion
Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) joked on Twitter Tuesday that she didn’t expect President Trump’s son to provide evidence of the Trump campaign colluding with Russia.
“When [President Trump] said show us the evidence of collusion, I have to say, I didn’t expect his son to answer,” Hirono tweeted Tuesday.

Hirono’s tweet came in response to Donald Trump Jr. releasing a series of emails Tuesday that detailed his correspondence with an acquaintance as they arranged a meeting with a Russian lawyer who promised to provide damaging information about Hillary Clinton as part of a Russian campaign to support President Trump.
{mosads}The acquaintance, Rob Goldstone, wrote in one email that “high level and sensitive information … is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”
“If it’s what you say I love it,” Trump Jr. said in one email responding to the promised information.
President Trump has repeatedly denied that his campaign or members of his administration colluded with Russia to win the election, saying in May that the special counsel into Russian election interference will find no evidence of collusion.
Lawmakers running House and Senate investigations into Russian election meddling are competing to get Trump Jr. to testify before their committees, with several lawmakers criticizing Trump Jr. for the emails.
