GOP official apologizes for sharing article that called for McCain’s death

A GOP official who shared a story on Twitter calling for the death of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) after he underwent surgery for a blood clot apologized Tuesday.

Diana Orrock, a committeewoman for the Republican National Committee in Nevada, on Monday night tweeted an article about McCain titled “Please Just F‑‑‑ing Die Already” with the caption “Amen.”

Orrock apologized for the now-deleted tweet, saying it was “disrespectful” and calling McCain “an American hero.”

McCain is recovering from surgery to remove a blood clot above his left eye.

Orrock told CNN Monday that she didn’t want McCain to die, but that she supported the “sentiments” of the article.

In the piece, published on Medium, writer Caitlin Johnstone calls McCain a “murderous warmongering neocon” and an “evil man.”

She wrote that McCain “can die a proud, happy man. And he should. Like, yesterday.”

Meghan McCain, the senator’s daughter, fired back at Orrock for her tweet Tuesday, calling her “a godless, horrible monster.”
