Russian lawyer who met Trump Jr. ready to testify before Congress: report
The Russian lawyer who met last year with Donald Trump Jr. and other campaign aides says she is ready to testify before Congress.
“I’m ready to clarify the situation behind this mass hysteria – but only through lawyers or testifying in the Senate,” Natalia Veselnitskaya said in an interview with Russia’s Kremlin-backed RT TV channel released late Tuesday, according to Reuters.
Trump Jr.’s meeting with the Russian lawyer has sparked controversy since it was first reported earlier this month.
{mosads}Last week, President Trump’s eldest son released a chain of emails detailing his conversations about setting up the meeting with the Russian lawyer who he was told had compromising information about his father’s presidential opponent, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
The president has since defended his son, saying most politicians would have taken that meeting.
Trump Jr. said last week he would be willing to testify under oath about his election-year meeting.
New details have quickly been emerging about the meeting, including the number of people who attended it.
An eighth person present at the meeting was identified on Wednesday as an American-based representative of a Russian real estate firm, Ike Kaveladze.
