• ENERGY. Polaris-Hutton Group is lobbying for Southern Co., an investor-owned utility. Amelia Blackwood, former staff assistant to Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.); Bryan Cunningham, former policy adviser to Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.); Daniel Gans, former chief of staff to then-Rep. Bob Riley (R-Ala.); and Michael Hutton, former chief of staff to then Rep. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), are tracking energy issues for the company.
Meridian Growth Strategies is lobbying for BiltBest Windows and Patio Doors on energy efficiency standards. Timothy Cansler, former assistant secretary at the United States Department of Agriculture, is lobbying for the door- and window-maker.
• FINANCIAL SERVICES. Rich Feuer Group is lobbying for Visa USA on “legislation and regulation affecting payment networks and credit cards,” Senate lobbying records show. Peter Rich, former counsel to the House Energy and Commerce Committee; Mitchell Feuer, former counsel to the Senate Banking Committee; and Michael Thompson, former legislative assistant to Rep. Vito Fossella (R-N.Y.), are lobbying for the credit card company.
• HEALTHCARE. The Raben Group is lobbying for the Direct Care Alliance. The firm is working to expand direct care workers’ access to federal minimum wage and overtime protections, according to Senate lobbying records.
• TELECOM. The American Continental Group is lobbying for Comcast, the cable provider. David Urban, former chief of staff to Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.); Carlyle Thorsen, former general counsel to then-Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas); Joshua Fay-Hurvitz, former legislative director to Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.); and Sheryl Cohen, former chief of staff and political director to Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), are lobbying for Comcast.
