Tracking: Obama approval rating jumps post speech

President Barack Obama’s approval rating jumped eight points after his address to Congress on Tuesday, according to polling done before and after the speech.

On Tuesday, Gallup released a poll that suggested Obama’s approval rating had hit a new low – 59 percent. That number jumped following the speech to 67 percent in Gallup’s polling released Friday.

Let’s go to the numbers.

Most notably, Obama’s uptick appears to have come from Republicans. Before the speech, 27 percent of Republicans approve of his performance. After the speech, that jumped to 42 percent.

All of this, of course, raises the same questions: How long can Obama’s numbers stay this high? And what can or will bring them down?
