Congressman: Trump acting like the nonpartisan president Americans want
A Republican congressman from the key swing state of Pennsylvania says President Trump is acting like the nonpartisan leader Americans want in order to get things done.
“What he is is, he’s an American president,” said Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.). “He’s not a Republican president. He’s certainly not a Democrat president. He’s an American president, and I think the American people, they like the idea that here’s a president who doesn’t hunker down and say, ‘Listen, unless it’s pure Republican I’m not there, unless it’s pure Democrat, I’m not there, if it’s not real liberal, I’m not there, if it’s not real conservative, I’m not there.’ “
{mosads}Kelly said Trump’s performance the last few weeks on the emerging budget deal and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program has risen above the normal petty partisanship that has affected Washington for so long.
“I think we have a president who right now says, ‘Let’s make sure it’s real American. Let’s make sure we’re handling all the concerns the American people have,’ ” he said.
