Bannon calls for Corker to resign after insulting Trump

Stephen Bannon, President Trump’s former chief strategist, is calling on Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) to resign following his disparaging remarks about the president’s ability to lead.

“If Bob Corker had any honor or decency, he should resign immediately,” Bannon told host Sean Hannity on Fox News’s “Hannity” on Monday night.

Bannon said it was “totally unacceptable” for Corker to suggest the president is childish when there are U.S. troops fighting wars abroad, after the Tennessee lawmaker, who is retiring after 2018, tweeted Sunday that “the White House has become an adult day care center.”

Bannon said Corker holds the view of many lawmakers in the Republican establishment, saying they have “total contempt for the forgotten man and the base.”

Corker, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and the rest of the “globalist clique on Capitol Hill has to go,” Bannon told Hannity.

“The American people see: This is what they think about President Trump behind closed doors. He happened to tell The New York Times exactly what he thought. It is totally unacceptable,” Bannon said, referring to a Sunday interview in which Corker said Trump could put the country on the path to World War III and that he was treating the presidency like a “reality show.”

Corker’s comments came after Trump early Sunday morning tweeted that the Foreign Relations Committee chairman “begged” him for his endorsement, and that Corker was “largely responsible for the horrendous Iran deal.”

Bannon was at least the second former Trump aide to call for Corker’s resignation on Monday, following ex-communications strategist Jason Miller.

“And look, if Sen. Corker is retiring and he doesn’t want to be in the U.S. Senate and he doesn’t want to support President Trump and doesn’t want to support such basic conservative principles, he should just resign,” Miller told CNN’s “New Day.”
