Ivanka Trump hosting dinners with lawmakers to push expanded child tax credit: report

First daughter Ivanka Trump is hosting GOP lawmakers for dinner to garner support for her latest political push.

Trump is hoping to expand the amount and eligibility for the child tax credit, a cause that some GOP senators, like Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah), have championed in the past.

In addition to conducting private meetings and phone calls, Trump will host two dinners with GOP lawmakers, including Rubio and Lee, at her Washington, D.C., home this month, Politico reported.

{mosads}“A significant expansion of the Child Tax Credit will help parents have more money at a time in their lives when they need it the most and give them the flexibility to make the best choices regarding their families’ care,” Trump said in a statement to Politico. “We’ve been deeply committed to helping parents afford the costs of raising and caring for their children since the early days of the administration and will continue to advocate for relief for American families in the coming weeks.”

The child tax credit was originally put in place by President Bill Clinton and expanded under the George W. Bush administration.

Trump has marketed herself as a spokeswoman for women’s and family rights, but critics have slammed her lack of progress in these arenas, especially after her father’s administration revoked the employer birth control mandate from ObamaCare.
