Broadcasting great Vin Scully: I will never watch another NFL game due to anthem protests

Longtime Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully vowed Saturday night that he will never watch another NFL game in response to some players protesting during the national anthem.

“I have only one personal thought really. And I am so disappointed,” Scully said at an event in Pasadena, Calif. “And I used to love during the fall and winter to watch the NFL on Sunday. And it’s not that I’m some great patriot. I was in the Navy for a year. Didn’t go anywhere, didn’t do anything. But I have overwhelming respect and admiration for anyone who puts on a uniform and goes to war.”

“So the only thing I can do in my little way is not to preach,” he continued. “I will never watch another NFL game.”

{mosads}Scully’s remarks, which were posted to Twitter, came at an event titled “An Evening with Vin Scully” after he was asked for his response to the ongoing NFL protests.

NFL players have since the 2016 season protested social justice issues, such as police brutality, by kneeling or raising a fist during the national anthem. The issue was brought into the spotlight in September when President Trump suggested those taking a knee should be fired.

Scully broadcast Dodgers games for 67 years, retiring at the end of the 2016 season.
