The Drudge Report slammed Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore as “Judge Whore” in an all-caps lead headline Wednesday, putting more pressure on the former judge amid allegations of sexual harassment and assault.
The influential online aggregation news site linked in the headline to
a Daily Beast story about Breitbart News chief Stephen Bannon, who remains one of Moore’s most prominent backers amid mounting Republican criticism. The Daily Beast reported that Bannon is considering pulling his support from Moore over the allegations, which Moore has denied.
{mosads}Drudge report founder Matt Drudge followed the headline with a tweet describing the Moore controversy as “a lesson on leaving politics to the professionals” — a jab at either Moore or Bannon, who has frequently feuded with Drudge.
Bannon has not waivered on his support for Moore publicly. The former White House chief strategist has said calls by several top Republican lawmakers, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) aren’t going to work because voters in Alabama will see the allegations against Moore as “an orchestrated hit.”
“This is just another desperate attempt by Mitch McConnell to keep power, and it’s not going to work,” Bannon said on Breitbart News Daily on SiriusXM. “You know, people in Alabama see through this. The good folks of Alabama are going to be able to weigh and measure this. … This is an orchestrated hit from the Uniparty.”
Drudge, which is visited by more than 2 million people each day, has featured almost-daily feature headlines with news on Moore since the allegations broke in The Washington Post last week.
The special election for Sen. Luther Strange’s (R-Ala.) Senate seat will be held on Dec. 12 between Moore and Democrat Doug Jones.
