Mnuchin, Linton catch flak for photos holding sheets of money

The gloves are off on Twitter, with many social media users mocking Louise Linton and her husband, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, over photos of them posing with new sheets of money.

Linton, a Scottish actress, and Mnuchin, a former Goldman Sachs executive and Hollywood producer, were photographed Wednesday at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, D.C.

The pair was on hand to see the first bills being produced that bear Mnuchin’s signature.

Twitter lit up as photos from the indoor occasion were released showing Linton, 36, sporting a pair of black leather gloves while holding up the printed $1 dollar bills.

In September, Linton apologized for an Instagram post in which she boasted about how much she pays in taxes, calling her words “condescending” and “out of touch.”

The performer had shared a photo showing her leaving a government plane while on a trip to Kentucky with Mnuchin and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and had included hashtags for the number of designer brands she was seen wearing in the snapshot.

She later shot back at an online critic who called her conspicuous luxury “deplorable” and who had questioned whether taxpayers were paying for Mnuchin and his spouse’s “little getaway.”

“Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband? Either as an individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice to your country?” Linton responded to the commenter, a mother of three from Oregon. She also called the Instagram user “adorably out of touch,” saying her “life looks cute.”

She told Washington Life magazine in an interview following the controversy, “I’m a no makeup girl. I was trying to create this public image that was elegant and stylish, but that was just so clueless because I should have focused on who I really am instead.”

Mnuchin is among the Trump Cabinet officials facing scrutiny for his use of taxpayer-funded travel. The Kentucky trip with Linton, which came on the same day as the historic solar eclipse, is under investigation by the Treasury’s inspector general.

Mnuchin also reportedly requested a government jet for his and Linton’s honeymoon in Europe earlier this year.
