Joe Walsh rips Fox News, calls Mueller an ‘American Hero’

Former Republican Congressman Joe Walsh lashed out at Fox News in a series of tweets Thursday, calling on the network to stop “badmouthing” special counsel Robert Mueller.

“And by the way Fox News, Robert Mueller is an American hero,” Walsh tweeted Thursday night. “Marine, Vietnam Veteran, he has dedicated his life to serving this country and keeping Americans and America safe. Quit badmouthing him. Cut it out.”

“When I grew up, the FBI were the good guys, and the Soviet Union were the bad guys,” he continued in a late tweet. “I watch @FoxNews today, and they tell me the FBI are the bad guys, and Russia are the good guys. Such bulls—t.”

Walsh later ripped President Trump for failing to himself call for a special counsel to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election.

“‘We can’t have a foreign country messing with our elections,’ Trump said in my dream,” Walsh tweeted. “And then I woke up.”

Conservatives have been ramping up their attacks on Mueller in recent days following former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn’s guilty plea for lying to FBI agents about his contact with Russian officials.

{mosads}Fox News hosts have slammed Mueller in their coverage, and Republicans on Capitol Hill have called for an investigation into “unprecedented bias against President Trump” in the FBI.

“A witch hunt continues against the president with tremendous bias, no purpose and no end in sight,” Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said.

The attacks on Mueller follow news last week that Mueller removed a veteran FBI agent from his investigation amid an investigation into the agent potentially sending anti-Trump text messages.

Peter Strzok reportedly exchanged text messages with FBI lawyer Lisa Page, whom he was dating, that appeared to support then-Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Peter Carr, a spokesman for the special counsel, told The Hill that “immediately upon learning of the allegations, the Special Counsel’s Office removed Peter Strzok from the investigation.”

But Mueller still has broad support on Capitol Hill among Republican leadership. Both Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) have tamped down calls for Mueller to be fired, saying he should be allowed to do his job.
