Reid: No Blagojevich Role in Picking Obama Successor

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has added his voice to those of others who say that Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) should play no role in appointing a Senate successor to President-elect Barack Obama.

Senate Majority Leader Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) called for a special election to replace Obama in leiu of an appointment by Blagojevich, as did Illinois Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn (D).

Reid’s full statement:

The charges against Governor Blagojevich are appalling and represent as serious a breach of the public trust as I have ever heard.
