Dem on Trump DOJ comments: Enough with the ‘banana republic-like tactics’
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) on Tuesday bashed President Trump for “pushing conspiracy theories” when he appeared earlier in the day to call for a former Hillary Clinton aide to be jailed.
“Enough w the banana republic-like tactics & daily assaults on our institutions. As Americans we must not normalize this dangerous behavior; it must be rejected”, Leahy tweeted.
Picking up where he left off in 2017, he’s pushing conspiracy theories & attacking the independence of law enforcement. Enough w the banana republic-like tactics & daily assaults on our institutions. As Americans we must not normalize this dangerous behavior; it must be rejected https://t.co/jP2A1XONe7

In a tweet Tuesday morning, Trump seemed to be referring to a report in The Daily Caller that said Clinton aide Huma Abedin had forwarded State Department emails to her personal Yahoo account.
{mosads}Those emails, according to that report, included passwords to government systems and were forwarded to her personal account before a breach at Yahoo affecting all customer accounts.
Trump called for the Department of Justice to “act” on Abedin, former FBI Director James Comey and others.
Leahy, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, was echoing former acting Attorney General Sally Yates’s criticism that Trump’s comments against his political opponents were “beyond abnormal” and “dangerous.”
