Power goes out at Consumer Electronics Show

The power went out Wednesday in two halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center during CES, the world’s largest consumer electronics show.

At 11:15 a.m. local time on the second day of CES, power cut out in the Central and South Halls of the center. The Consumer Technology Association, which runs the event, said they are “working hard to resolve” the issue.

An editor from tech publication CNET said a hotel across town also briefly lost power.

Whoa, I’m in a hotel on the other side of town from the LVCC and our power just flickered too…

CNBC reported that some booths have battery-powered lights and that large windows are allowing some natural light.

Some companies latched onto the outage as an advertising opportunity. Intel tweeted a photo of the darkened convention center with the caption, “Introducing Blackout: The biggest thing to hit CES 2018 since 5G.”

Nikon pitched its products, too, tweeting “Power goes out at CES? No problem for the low-light capabilities of Nikon DSLRs.”
