Silicon Valley group considering BuzzFeed News investment: report
Laurene Powell Jobs’s Emerson Collective is reportedly in talks to purchase a stake in BuzzFeed News, which would increase her holdings in the media industry, reports the Financial Times.
{mosads}Jobs, the widow of former Apple Inc. chairman and CEO Steve Jobs, is reportedly considering only buying a stake in BuzzFeed’s news unit and not the entire company.
Following a 2016 shift, BuzzFeed more firmly separated its news and entertainment divisions, the latter of which includes content ranging from food videos to quizzes and lists.
Emerson Collective already owns a stake in Axios as well as a majority stake in The Atlantic, which it acquired in the summer.
The company has focused on philanthropic and socially conscious investing. Emerson’s other investments include Anonymous Content, a talent-management company that helped make the film “Spotlight,” and Angaza, a solar energy distribution startup.
BuzzFeed, as a whole, was valued at $1.7 billion in November 2016 following a $200 million investment by NBCUniversal.
