McCain Takes Alabama, Arkansas and Georgia

John McCain has captured a trio Southern states that have traditionally gone Republican.

MSNBC projects that McCain has won Alabama and Georgia, a state with a large African-American population and which Barack Obama had won handily during the Democratic primaries. CBS has called Arkansas for McCain.

Polling before Election Day had shown McCain ahead of Obama in all three states, though they had shown a small lead for McCain in Georgia.
