Social media mocks Cruz for calling Dems ‘party of Lisa Simpson’
Twitter users on Thursday mocked Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) after he labeled the Democratic Party as “the party of Lisa Simpson” during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
Speaking just over a week after the deadly high school shooting in South Florida, The Federalist’s Ben Domenech compared the debate over gun control to an episode of “The Simpsons.”

Domenech mentioned a moment from one episode in which Homer Simpson cites the Second Amendment as protection for guns used hunting or personal protection. Daughter Lisa Simpson argues the Second Amendment is a “remnant from revolutionary days — it has no meaning today.”
“The Democrats are the party of Lisa Simpson and Republicans are happily the party of Homer, Bart, Maggie and Marge,” Cruz said in response.
Social media users took to Twitter to mock Cruz for his remark.
Lisa Simpson was elected president at one point in the series.
She replaced Trump, who caused a budget crisis that Lisa inherits. https://t.co/3s2T7DVZxP https://t.co/lmyLlg5Fnr

As a Simpsons animator for many years, I can say with 100% certainty that A) Lisa is officially the conscience of the family so…awesome. B) Neither Marge nor Homer are Republicans.

OK, but which parties are which in Sex And The City, Good Place, and Game of Thrones characters

No way this is all right. Sure on Lisa and Homer, and maybe Bart, though he was a troublemaking skater punk. Marge was kind of a hippy, and Maggie would be a female millennial. https://t.co/A6xnsm6aoI

Republicans are a cross-class alliance of Mr Burns and Grandpa Simpson.

Lisa’s a Democrat, Bart’s a Libertarian, Marge is a swing voter, Maggie is a Marxist revolutionary.
Homer never registered to vote.

the worst thing you can do online is anger teens and the second worst is definitely expressing an ill-informed opinion on The Simpsons

my new conspiracy theory, which I believe with all my heart, is that Ted Cruz has never seen the Simpsons and a staffer just read the Wikipedia page to him

“Simpsons” showrunner Al Jean joined in the pile-on against Cruz, writing on Twitter that the Texas Republican is “the one who could use a pacifier in his mouth.”
Cruz is a big fan of Fox’s long-running animated sitcom, even favoring BuzzFeed with some his best impressions of characters from Springfield during a 2015 interview.
