Gunman at Maryland high school died from shooting himself in the head

The 17-year-old who opened fire at a high school in Maryland earlier this month died after shooting himself in the head, officials said.

Police say Austin Wyatt Rollins opened fire at Great Mills High School in Maryland earlier this month, killing one student and injuring another, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Rollins was then confronted by the school’s resource officer, the newspaper reported, citing officials.

Officials said the shot Rollins fired to his head was fatal.

The resource officer was not injured in the shooting.

The shooting at the Maryland high school came about a month after a shooting at a high school in Parkland, Fla., left 17 people dead.

Gun control has become a central issue in the country since the Florida school shooting, with students leading the charge to demand change.

Over the weekend, hundreds of thousands of people in cities across the country took part in marches to protest gun violence and call for action.
