Trump offers condolences to Canada following hockey team crash

President Trump spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Saturday to offer his condolences to the nation after a bus crash killed over a dozen junior league hockey team members. 

Trump offered his “highest respect and condolences” to those affected by the crash of the bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos through the province of Saskatchewan early Friday afternoon. 

“Just spoke to @JustinTrudeau to pay my highest respect and condolences to the families of the terrible Humboldt Team tragedy. May God be with them all!” Trump tweeted.

Of the 28 people on the bus, 14 people were killed and another 14 were injured upon a collision with a semi truck. Survivors were taken to the hospital, where three are currently in critical condition, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. 

“I cannot imagine what these parents are going through, and my heart goes out to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy, in the Humboldt community and beyond,” Trudeau tweeted Saturday morning.

The team was on its way to a playoff game against the Nipawin Hawks, which has since been cancelled.
