Dershowitz: Mueller’s goal is to write a report in hopes Congress uses it to impeach Trump

Attorney Alan Dershowitz said he thinks special counsel Robert Mueller’s goal is to produce a report in the hopes that Congress moves to impeach President Trump.

“I think that’s the plan,” Dershowitz told Fox News’s Sean Hannity, when asked about Mueller’s ultimate endgame.

Dershowitz added that he doesn’t believe Trump should “plead the fifth.”

{mosads}”If he pleads the fifth, Mueller gives him immunity and then he has to testify and immunity doesn’t cover impeachment,” Dershowitz said.

Mueller is investigating Russian election interference and possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Dershowitz’s comments come after the FBI on Monday raided the office of Trump’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen.

Cohen’s lawyer, Stephen Ryan, said in a statement that federal prosecutors in New York City obtained a search warrant after receiving a referral “in part” from Mueller.

The raid enraged Trump, who condemned the move as a “disgrace” and a “pure and simple witch hunt.”

The fiery comments immediately sparked speculation that the FBI raid on Cohen’s office could lead Trump to take steps to try and fire Mueller, who is investigating Russian election interference and possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

“We’ll see what happens. … Many people have said, ‘You should fire [Mueller],’ ” Trump said. “Again, they found nothing and in finding nothing, that’s a big statement.”

Dershowitz, who is an opinion contributor for The Hill, also said the FBI raid of Cohen marked a “very dangerous day” for “lawyer-client relations.”
