Alabama congressional candidate holding a drawing to win an AR-15
A Republican congressional candidate in Alabama who previously served as Roy Moore’s campaign manager is giving away a free AR-15 rifle.
AL.com reported Tuesday that Rich Hobson will hold a random drawing to give away an AR-15 on Memorial Day. He framed the giveaway as an example of how much he values Second Amendment rights.
“The Second Amendment’s language points to a greater burden of every household to be prepared to defend this country if necessary,” he said.

“Because of that, I believe that it is right and proper for every family in the country to own an AR-15 Defense Rifle,” he added.
Hobson’s campaign said a local outdoor gear retailer will handle necessary background checks and other legal requirements.
AR-15s have been used in multiple mass shootings in recent years. Pro-gun advocates have defended the weapon, saying it’s commonly used for hunting.
Hobson is one of several Republicans challenging incumbent Rep. Martha Roby (R-Ala.) in a June 5 primary.
Hobson ran Moore’s campaign for U.S. Senate last year.
Moore, who faced multiple allegations during the campaign of sexual misconduct, ultimately lost to Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.). Moore, a former state Supreme Court justice, has since filed multiple lawsuits over the election result.
