Laura Ingraham: George Will is ‘sad and petty’ for urging votes against GOP

Fox News host Laura Ingraham slammed conservative columnist George Will on Friday for his op-ed urging Americans to vote against Republicans in November.

In a tweet, Ingraham responded to a post of Will’s op-ed in the Washington Post arguing that “Republican caucuses must be substantially reduced,” calling the writer’s words “sad and petty.”

Ingraham’s tweet came after Will penned a scathing op-ed urging voters to turn against the party whose president and vice president he has frequently criticized.

“Ryan and many other Republicans have become the president’s poodles, not because James Madison’s system has failed but because today’s abject careerists have failed to be worthy of it,” Will wrote, referring to Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.).

“In today’s GOP, which is the president’s plaything, he is the mainstream. So, to vote against his party’s cowering congressional caucuses is to affirm the nation’s honor while quarantining him,” he added.

Ingraham has responded to Will’s criticism of the Trump administration before, accusing the Post columnist of taking a “dive, sadly off the deep end” earlier this year after Will accused Vice President Mike Pence of being the worst person in the federal government for his praise of Arizona Senate candidate Joe Arpaio (R).

“Because his is the authentic voice of today’s lickspittle Republican Party, he clarifies this year’s elections: Vote Republican to ratify groveling as governing,” Will wrote in his previous column.

Despite his criticism of Trump, Will warned on an episode of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” earlier this month that such a candidate could arise on the left as well.

“Let me give Democrats a warning,” he told Maher earlier in June. “In the summer of 2015, you had 18 Republican candidates on stage and the most lurid stood out. In the summer of 2018, there will be 18 Democrats on stage and maybe the most lurid will stand out there.”

“The idea that only the Republican Party or only the right can produce something like Donald Trump is naive and cheerful,” he added.
