NYPD deploys officers to newsrooms throughout city after Annapolis shooting

The New York City Police Department has deployed officers to major newsrooms throughout the city as a precautionary measure following a shooting at a Maryland newspaper.

“We amp up security in these kinds of incidents,” an NYPD spokesperson told The Hill in confirming the decision to deploy units to various news organizations following the shooting at the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Md.

A reporter with a local NBC affiliate reported that multiple police officers were stationed outside the headquarters of The New York Times in Midtown.
At least four people were killed in the shooting at the Annapolis newspaper, according to multiple reports. The suspect has reportedly been apprehended. 

The Baltimore Sun owns the Capital Gazette. The Sun reported police were also present at their offices in downtown Baltimore and conducted a precautionary sweep of the facility. An all-clear order was eventually provided
